Short introduction to massage healing:
Massage is an ancient ayurvedic healing art. Through
application of pressure on energy lines and points, and a vast array of passive
stretching movements performed with the hands, feet, knees and elbow's, the
body experiences profound relaxation, peripheral stimulation of internal
organs, increased flexibility and increased flow of energy. It is performed on
a futon on the floor with the client comfortably dressed.
The best thing about
massage is that you get the flexibility, inner organ massage,
oxygenation of the blood and quieting of the mind that is attained with
yoga.
Through deep muscle stretching, joint release and emphasis on breat, Massage offers many of the same benefits as
yoga. It's amazing how much more we are able to move when another person is
providing assistance and encouraging us to relax more effectively. It is an
interactive form of bodywork, quite unlike any other Western or Eastern forms.
While it does include the usual muscle kneading (in its own form), what makes
it particularly relevant is its unique stretching. You remain passive while the
practitioner does the movements to you.
Stages of Massage
Healing?
There are four main stages of healing through
massage: relief, correction, strengthening, and maintenance.
Relief
The first few sessions of massage therapy will be
aimed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension and relax stressed nerves. The
relief sessions are aimed at the symptoms of the problem.
Correction
When the pain is gone, the therapist will work on the
problem that caused the pain. Techniques will be aimed at stimulating your
lymphatic system and freeing knotted and scarred muscle fibers.
Strengthening
Strengthening is important in a badly damaged area.
Weakness at the injury site can mean recurring problems. Techniques will be
aimed at strengthening the tissues near the injury enabling them to provide
adequate support when the injury is healed.
Maintenance
Maintenance is the final stage in healing and the
first step in preventing other injuries. Maintenance techniques are aimed at
treating the problem and preventing the occurrence of new problems.
