SHORT
INTODUCTION TO ACUPUNTURE:
Acupuncture
literally means 'needle piercing,"
Acupuncture
healing is a practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate
specific anatomic points in the body (called acupoints or acupuncture points)
for therapeutic purposes. Along with the usual method of puncturing the skin
with the fine needles, the practitioners of acupuncture also use heat, pressure,
friction, suction, or impulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the
points.
Acupuncture
healing is the based on the philosophies of the Dao or Tao, yin and yang,.
According
to the philosophy of Dao, the role of the acupuncturist is to restore your
health and enable you to live a little closer to the Dao, thus preserving your
Jing and living to a ripe old AGE.
Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science, which is used to successfully
treat both pain and dysfunction in the body
Acupuncture
is a universal system for treating almost all illness and enable you to live a
long and healthy life. However there are certain specific acupuncture points
that should be avoided in pregnancy, although acupuncture in general is a very
safe and effective treatment during pregnancy for both early morning sickness
and pain.
How
acupuncture healing works?
A course of
six to eight sessions is usually required for effective symptom relief through
acupuncture healing. When such relief has been obtained, it often lasts for
three to nine months when one or two further treatments will "top-up" the
therapeutic benefit.
When the
acupuncture needles are actually inserted, they are usually left in place for
between 15 and 30 minutes and often the acupuncturist will try and manipulate
the needles so that you will feel a dull bursting or numb sensation around their
site of insertion. This sensation is called "de qi" or "obtaining energy" and
traditionally it is suggested that “de qi” may be an important part of the
treatment process. Sometimes your acupuncturist may use other methods of
stimulating the acupuncture point, for instance moxibustion, which is the
burning of the herb Artemesia vulgaris just above the surface of the skin or on
the end of a needle, or placing a cup over the acupuncture point.
In nut
shell, in acupuncture healing this is Acupuncture's goal-to restore normalcy to
the body's energy balance by utilizing a combination of Acupoints located on the
12 meridians. This is accomplished by a variety of means, the needle is just
one.
Acupuncturists work directly with the body's Qi (pronounced "Chee"). Qi is
energy. It moves through the body in channels called Meridians. Qi should flow
through the body smoothly, through the arms, legs, body and head. If there is an
imbalance in this flow, this can lead to illness or pain.
